RPG: The Day the World Died

Game Type: Tabletop RPG

Genre: Noir

Game System: Theatre Noir (beta)

Duration: 6 hours

Maximum number of players: 6

The Day The World Died is an original scenario for Theatre Noir, which tracks the lives of seven people who all happen to be in the same cafe in downtown Seattle when the end of the world begins. What would you do if the world were about to end? Where would you go? Would it all have been worth it? Take one of seven pre-generated characters and find out in this psychological thriller. All levels of experience welcome!

About Theatre Noir:

Theatre Noir is a brand new RPG in the beta stage of development. It uses an original, experimental system, which places the emphasis on vanilla humans in a modern, urban setting. In some instances of the game, supernatural elements may be included, but they are not required, allowing the game to include real mystery not just for the characters, but for the players.

The Lie of Show, Don't Tell
"Show, don’t tell."  Sounds like great advice…but what does it mean?  Often writers are told what not to do.  Don’t tell the readers how to feel.  Don’t tell the readers what to think.  But even when they are told what to do, such as be more descriptive and concrete in imagery, the rewrite often falls flat.  That’s because the advice to show, don’t tell has an inherent contradiction built into it.  Showing can be sterile but readers want a rich experience.  This how-to talk will reveal how the core contradiction of show, don’t tell interferes with creating emotionally engaging scenes.  It will provide specific techniques for how to write successful, rich scenes to captivate your readers.  With a little practice, you may never hear those three little words again.

How can you use the things you love to do in your career? There's more options and opportunities than you may think!

From Steven Savage: My goal, as a member of “Geek 2.0″ – a professional geek – is to discuss how people can use their hobbies, interests, and outright obsessions on their careers. I’m not interested in the idea that “if you like video games be a programmer” or “if you like anime be a voice actor” – that’s limiting yourself! I talk about how our hobbies and fandoms help us learn more about ourselves and grow as people. Forget the careers people think you “must” have – you’ve got a gateway to finding out what you really like!

Finding Your Troll Tale - Creating Your Troll Tail. The Myths and Talismans of Trolls
In the Troll world, tales and remembered experiences are of great importance. Trolls remember their tales by collecting various small objects and tying them in a patterned sequence onto their tails or clothing, using each object as a part of their "remembering." In this workshop, Brian and Wendy Froud will help you to discover your own tale. You will then create your "tail" - in this case either a wooden stick, necklace, bracelet or fabric/leather strip, using natural objects and a small, polymer clay object created in the workshop. You may also bring something of your own that you would like to incorporate into the finished piece.
